Saugat KC, EIT

Saugat is an Engineer-in-Training at Pulmvita, working primarily on the Quality, Regulatory, and Human Factors side, while also supporting startup operations more broadly.

He graduated in April 2026 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Alberta. His research background includes building mechanical rigs to study tyrannosaur bite marks, developing silicone-molded Achilles tendon models, and developing pumping mechanisms for Total Artificial Hearts that he completed as a three Dean's Research Awards projects.

In conjunction with his studies, Saugat co-founded and led Alberta Heart, the first Canadian student team designing a Total Artificial Heart, as Project Lead from June 2024 to December 2025. The team was one of only two North American teams to reach the finals of the International Heart Hackathon. He remains involved in the space today as an Alumni Advisor for the Heart Hackathon competition, supporting more than a dozen international teams comprising of hundrends of students.

Outside of work, you'll usually find Saugat hiking in the mountains, cooking in his kitchen, or climbing at the bouldering gym.
